This is my first road bike and I was a little nervous about stability and comfort...well, after passing the 1100 mile mark yesterday, I'm totally at ease in all areas of concern! I purchased my bike the first week of July, '14, from the very professional staff at my local bike shop, Chainwheel Drive in Palm Harbor, Fl., and today is October 29, '14. I'm 6' 1" and ride a (58)cm size bike...when I purchased the bike, I weighed approximately (215)lbs., today I weigh (202)lbs and have never felt better. I'm recently retired, so I'm able to ride an average of (4) times a week and I typically log (21) to (31) miles per ride. I ride the very scenic and reasonably safe Pinellas Trail in western Florida...from Tarpon Springs, in the north county, to Clearwater, in mid county. The trail is asphalt and in most cases, reasonably smooth. This bike offers an extremely smooth ride and speed is totally up to your ability and fitness...I was a little skeptical about the effects and efficiency of the "Zertz" feature, but it works! Vibration is virtually nil! My rides usually last about (2) hours, (ave. speed apprx 13.5 to 14.3 mph, depending on the wind), and when I return home and "cool down" I'm ready to climb back on and ride some more...I don't...but I love to ride this bike! With water bottle and cage, plus emergency repair kit, the bike weighs in at approximately (21)lbs...considerably lighter than the Giant hybrid I'm used to riding. And, I would be remiss if I don't mention the excellent customer service at CWD...I've taken my bike in for adjustment and routine service on several occasions, and the staff go out of their way to make sure every detail is perfect! For anyone "on the fence" about purchasing a Specialized Secteur Sport C2 road bike and spending their hard earned dollars, go for it!...you won't be disappointed! JSM Palm Harbor, Fl.
This bike is a great value for anyone that wants a road bike that can "do it all." I'm basically using it as a trainer, but have had some racing experience and can still feel the joy of a lighter and more precise bike buried somewhere within this bikes geometry. The quality of the components is good for the price. I can see an alloy crank, alloy brakes and higher grade wheels waking this bike up for more serious tours. It's fast and stable and does seem to suck up the vibrations the way its Roubaix-inspired claims are pur forth. The drawbacks are maybe the hubs and the thick lube and heavy hands that set the axle cones on mine. I had to reset the cones when I realized that the wheels barely spun freely after closer inspection. Sora may not be the best groupo, but it handles the demands without too much clunkiness. All in all, I'm really happy I bought this bike and I'm sure it will get many 000's of miles before I'll have to consider any form of upgrade. It basically fills the duty of a bike that might cost me 3x the price, so if it doesn't hold up forever I won't have a cause for complaint. The general set up allows reasonable free wheeling on the smooth roads and the ability to handle road side gravel without sweating about an immediate flat. Light touring, workouts, weekend jaunts and club rides are well within the limits of this bike. It is, above all else, a superb value for the asking price. Oh, and really quite fun to ride!
I am in my 60's. My road bike that I LOVED was stolen many years ago. I replaced it with a quality mountain bike but never really enjoyed riding it. After continually gaining weight and reluctance to use the treadmill it was time to shop for a bike. I went to the oldest established bike shop in Orlando where I also knew an employee in the repair department. I met with a member of the sales staff who was genuinely concerned about getting a customer in the right bike. No pressure - no "continually focused on closing the sale." He and other staff spent considerable time discussing bikes, fit, geometry and I settled on test riding both hybrid and road bikes. In all over the next two days I test rode six (6) different bikes - three (3) from Cannondale and three (3)from Specialized. A couple had to be built so I could try them out. All were excellent, quality products. Each test ride was roughly twenty (20) minutes. However, I found the Specialized's Secteur Sport to be the most comfortable for me. It "fit." Before the purchase I took the bike out for a final one (1)hour test ride - significantly raising the staff's anxiety. When I got back I was ready to hop back on and ride some more - I knew this was my bike. In little over a week I have 120 miles on my bike and I love it. The take away is that most local bike shop(s) are full of knowledgable, helpful staff. They stock first rate, quality products. Most bike shop staff are interested in getting you into a bike you like and can afford, but most important is that it fits you. Each brand is a little different. My advice: if you end up in a bike shop that is always trying to close the sale or rushing you to buy after just one quick test ride, ask for the manager and tell him or her why they have lost your business before leaving.
